CHARLES UPTON
Founder / Lead Designer
Inspired by the wisdom of traditional knowledge around the world, Charles designs decentralized water solutions that integrate rainwater harvesting, greywater reuse, water retention landscaping and soil microbe propagation in diverse landscapes globally.
Charles has studied traditional water knowledge from drylands around the world. He has spent years living in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts, worked with Bedouin people in the Arabian peninsula and did his graduate fieldwork on social equity of traditional water systems of the Thar Desert of Rajasthan India.
He holds a MSc in Integrated Water Management from the International Water Centre in Australia, a BA in International Relations from Wheaton College MA and multiple certificates in rainwater, greywater, permaculture design, Korean Natural Farming and natural building.
He is fascinated by cycles, specifically the water cycle, carbon cycle and nitrogen cycle. He also believes the bicycle to be the most perfect human invention.
